What is a Home Information Pack?
The idea of a Home Information Pack, commonly referred to as a “HIP” is to give potential buyers a better idea of the property they are buying and to reduce costs for first time buyers. It also aims to speed up the process of selling/buying a property as it provides some of the necessary information upfront before a buyer is introduced.
A Home Information Pack (HIP) will need to be produced, at the cost of the seller. On 22nd November the Government announced that Home Information Packs (HIPs) will be required on all residential properties from 14th December 2007.

Until June 2008:
- Only the Lease itself, not the rest of the leasehold information, will be required for leasehold properties.
- The property can be marketed as soon as the HIP is ordered.
